Washington has not yet specified which Russian proposals are unacceptable to it, said the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation
Moscow. January 6th. INTERFAX - Russia expects a fairly quick result at the January talks with Washington and NATO on security guarantees, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in an interview published Thursday in the Izvestia newspaper.
"We expect (...) for a fairly quick result. However, after the events that will take place next week, it will become clear whether rapid progress is possible, whether it is possible to move on the subjects that interest us in the first place," Ryabkov said.
At the same time, he noted that Washington has not yet specified what exactly is unacceptable for the United States in the Russian proposals on security guarantees.
"They did not specify which ones," Ryabkov answered the corresponding question.
Nevertheless, the Deputy Foreign Minister added, the Russian side will try to deal with the opponents' position at the upcoming negotiations with the United States and within the framework of the Russia-NATO Council on Security Guarantees, and also explain "the logic of our approach."
"We will hold the first installation event next week, explain the logic of our approach and fix the elements without which it is impossible to talk about any productive process at all. The main thing is for us to sort out the opponents' position in the current segment. So far, we have heard from the United States, NATO, and other countries only the most general rather abstract comments," he stressed.
Ryabkov also described the Russian approach as "quite tough".
"Tactics are being built in a completely different way, and our approach is quite tough. (...) The non-movement of NATO closer to our borders, the non-admission of new members, the non-display of weapons in the relevant territories, including, of course, the Ukrainian one, the failure to conduct appropriate provocative training events, and so on - all these are absolutely necessary integral elements, without which we will be forced to state that there is a lack of operability on the other side," Ryabkov stated.
