Istanbul. January 5th. INTERFAX - Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg held a telephone conversation on Wednesday ahead of the NATO-Russia Council meeting scheduled for January 12, Anadolu agency reports.
"According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Turkey - IF), Cavusoglu and Stoltenberg exchanged views on the eve of the meeting of NATO foreign ministers and the meeting of the NATO-Russia Council," the agency reports.
On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published a Russian draft agreement on measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation and NATO member states. It consists of nine articles, assumes the refusal of NATO from expansion, including the accession of Ukraine, conducting military activities on the territory of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia, as well as from the deployment of medium- and shorter-range missiles in locations from where they can hit the territory of other participants.
On the eve it became known that the North Atlantic Council of NATO is going to an extraordinary meeting on Friday, January 7, to discuss Russia's military buildup near the borders with Ukraine.
