Roscosmos called the situation in Baikonur calm
Representatives of Roscosmos assessed the situation in the Kazakh city of Baikonur. This is reported by Telegram channel "Sputnik Near Abroad".
According to media reports, a source in the state corporation called the situation in Baikonur calm. According to him, the law enforcement officers in the city are working as usual.
On January 5, amid protests in Kazakhstan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev imposed a state of emergency in the capital of the republic from January 5 to January 19. The protests began on Sunday due to the increase in gas prices for cars from 60 to 120 tenge (from 10 to 20 rubles) per liter.
There is a cosmodrome of the same name in Baikonur, which is leased from Russia until 2050. At the end of December, journalists reported with reference to a source in the space industry, that Russia is going to refuse to lease 16 objects at Baikonur. The transfer of objects to the Kazakh side should take place before the end of 2022.
