PARIS, January 3 - RIA Novosti. France wants to make a positive contribution to the tenth conference on the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and confirm the priority of this treaty, the Elysee Palace said on Monday.
The UN secretariat previously proposed either to postpone the NPT Review Conference or to hold it in a virtual format due to the epidemiological situation with coronavirus. Later, the chairman of the conference Gustavo Zlauvinen proposed to hold it on August 1-26, 2022.
"France remains ready to make a positive contribution to the 10th NPT Review Conference and preserve the authority and primacy of this treaty on each of its three pillars: nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and the peaceful use of the atom," the Elysee Palace said in a statement.
It is noted that France has been coordinating the work of the nuclear powers "for almost two years" in connection with the conference.
The statement of the French side was made public on the occasion of the publication of the statement of the "nuclear five". The leaders of the PRC, the Russian Federation, Britain, the United States and France called for the prevention of nuclear war and the prevention of war between countries with nuclear weapons.
