"The military potential of associations, formations and military units will continue to increase in the Southern Military District," the press service of the Southern Military District quotes Dvornikov's New Year's greetings.
"Our main efforts are focused on maintaining the combat and mobilization readiness of the troops of the Southern Military District at a level that guarantees reliable protection of state interests and military security of the south of the Russian Federation," Dvornikov said.
On December 21, during the final board of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Dvornikov announced the creation of new divisions and brigades in the Southern Military District. "The 19th Motorized Rifle Division has been recreated as part of the 58th Combined Arms Army. The 8th Combined Arms Army is reinforced with rocket and artillery brigades. Military units of the newly formed 20th Guards Motorized Rifle Division have started training in combat training. The 49th combined arms army was replenished with parts of electronic warfare, radiation, chemical and biological protection," he said.
On December 29, it became known that the Russian military had completed the formation of a new airborne assault regiment in Feodosia (Crimea). This regiment became part of the Novorossiysk Airborne Assault Mountain Division.
The United States, other NATO countries and Ukraine have recently announced the concentration of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border.
