Moscow. December, 31st. INTERFAX - The Russian military plans to equip a new training ground in Crimea for paratroopers, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday.
"The build-up of combat potential will continue. In 2022, several airborne assault and artillery units will be re-equipped with modern equipment, new training grounds "Blue Sedge" in the Ivanovo region and "Starokrymsky" in the Republic of Crimea will be equipped," the Information Department of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported.
On December 29, it became known that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation completed the formation of a new airborne assault regiment in Feodosia (Crimea). He joined the Novorossiysk Division of the Airborne Troops (Airborne) of the Russian Federation.
"Airborne troops in the 2022 academic year will continue to improve as the basis of the rapid reaction forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation," the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.
"The new academic year, which began on December 1 of this year in the troops, is held under the motto "Airborne forces - troops of tactical surprise and combat initiative". The main efforts will be focused on training troops to practice actions in all strategic directions," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
According to the military, in 2022 it is planned to hold about 100 training events for management bodies, command and staff exercises with all formations and military units of Airborne troops.
The commander of the Airborne Troops, Andrei Serdyukov, previously reported that in 2018 the number of airborne troops was increased.
In November 2018, the Russian military announced a decision to strengthen the Airborne Troops with army aviation, air defense and missile defense units.
In April 2019, the Russian Defense Ministry said that two divisions and one brigade of the Russian Airborne Forces were reinforced with tank battalions. Previously, there were no tanks in the Russian Airborne Forces.
