Wind farm
Representatives of the Danish company Ørsted reported on the generation of the first batch of electricity at the Hornsea 2 wind farm. It should take over the status of the largest and most powerful facility of this type in the world from its predecessor, the Hornsea 1 power plant. But this is only the middle of the road – two more segments of the energy complex, Hornsea 3 and Hornsea 4, are already under construction.
The first Hornsea 1 power plant has 174 wind turbines installed, it generates 1.2 GW. Hornsea 2 will have fewer turbines, 165, but they are more powerful – 8 MW each, which will result in 1.32 GW. The record will be set when all the wind turbines are built, and 390 km of underwater cable will also have to be laid, plus 40 km overland to the substation in Killingholm. The power plant itself is being built 90 km from the coast of Grimes – this is another record, all other wind turbines in the world are much closer to the shore. We are talking about the UK, for which all the generated energy is intended. It is estimated that the first two segments will be able to provide electricity to 2.3 million homes, but this is provided that the weather is suitable. In any case, the authorities of this country are aimed at switching to carbon-free energy by 2050, and therefore wind farms will be built further.
