INTERFAX - The Chinese authorities at the talks between the Chinese and US military have put forward demands for the American side to put an end to hostile activity near the Chinese borders, the weekly Newsweek reported, citing the Ministry of Defense of the People's Republic of China.
The publication recalls that the negotiations between the military of the two countries took place on December 14-16, they were attended by representatives of the Pacific Fleet of the US Navy and the Pacific Air Force of the United States, as well as the Navy and Air Force of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China. Following the consultations, the Indo-Pacific Command of the US Armed Forces reported that the US and Chinese military discussed compliance with safety at sea and in the air and standards of professional behavior, and also "considered important security events."
On Thursday, at a press conference at the Ministry of Defense of the People's Republic of China, Colonel Tan Kefei criticized the actions of the United States in the region.
"The root cause of the problems between China and the United States with maritime and air security is American ships and military aircraft that conduct long-term, intensive reconnaissance operations and measurements nearby; conduct targeted exercises, and also often encroach on the rights of (China, - "IF") and carry out provocative actions in the seas and airspace near China," the weekly quotes him as saying.
He stressed that the cessation of such activity by the United States is an unconditional solution to the security problems between China and the United States.
He also expressed Beijing's rejection of the signing by US President Joe Biden of the US defense budget for 2022 in the amount of $768.2 billion. According to Newsweek, the budget provides for improving the equipment of the US military in the Pacific region, requires the Pentagon to compile a series of reports on China's military and diplomatic strategy in the world.
