Army Recognition: Mjölner double-barreled mortars handed over to the Swedish Armed Forces
Mjölner self-propelled mortars of 120 mm caliber were handed over to the Swedish military. A feature of the new machines was a double-barreled layout with two mortars. This is reported by Army Recognition.
The military received 40 vehicles that were ordered in 2017. Self-propelled mortars manufactured by the Swedish company BAE Systems Hägglunds are based on the chassis of the CV90 infantry fighting vehicle.
The publication notes that the main feature of the machine was the presence of two mortars with a mechanical loading system. This ensures a maximum rate of fire of up to 16 rounds per minute. The firing range of Mjölner is 13 kilometers.
Earlier, the Uralvagonzavod concern announced the transfer to the Russian military of the first batch of modernized 2S7M "Malka" self-propelled guns. The military received artillery installations with new surveillance devices and communication equipment.
In September, the "Military-Industrial Courier" named the most unsuccessful weapon of the Second World War. The list included the Soviet VM-37 shovel mortar, which demonstrated insufficient effectiveness.
In 2019, BAE Systems published a video demonstrating the capabilities of the Mjölner self-propelled mortar.
