The first place in the list of the world's most anticipated novelties of the Russian defense industry was taken by the Checkmate fighter. On the air of Sputnik radio, expert Andrey Koshkin told what, in his opinion, caused the interest of potential customers in this aircraft.
Rosoboronexport named the top five most anticipated novelties of domestic weapons in the world, with the promising fifth-generation light fighter Checkmate in the first place. We are talking about export samples that were presented to foreign customers in 2021.
"The top 5 export samples presented in 2021 included the Checkmate light tactical aircraft, which was exhibited at MAKS and Dubai Airshow, the Orion-E reconnaissance and strike complex of the UAV, the Tosochka MLRS with thermobaric ammunition, the AK-19 Kalashnikov assault rifle and the S-350E Vityaz anti-aircraft missile system, shown in Russia and abroad," the press service of the corporation quotes its CEO Alexander Mikheev.
On Sputnik radio, Andrei Koshkin, a military political scientist, head of the Department of Political Science and Sociology at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, told what, in his opinion, explains the high interest in the Checkmate aircraft.
Electronic equipment with elements of artificial intelligence is installed in the cockpit of the Su-75 Checkmate, which significantly increases the efficiency of the new fighter, he added.
Another advantage of the fighter is its open architecture, that is, the possibility of configuration according to the wishes of the customer, Andrey Koshkin continued.
Checkmate is Russia's first single-engine aircraft of the fifth generation, it was created by Sukhoi (part of the United Aircraft Corporation Rostec). For the first time, the fighter was demonstrated in July 2021 at the MAKS-2021 aerospace salon. The key features of the machine are low visibility, low cost of flight hours, open architecture and high performance according to the "cost – effectiveness" criterion.
