Unmanned target helicopters of the Technodinamika holding of Rostec State Corporation took part in testing the latest ammunition for drones.
The use of the new weapon was practiced by the Orion strike drone. According to the exercise scenario, the helicopter should break through to a military airfield, and Orion, in the absence of other air defense means, should detect and destroy it.
The helicopter simulator aerial target (VM-V) is part of a complex with unmanned aerial vehicles – an aerial target simulator developed and created at the Dynamics Central Research Center.
The helicopter is capable of being in the air for at least 2 hours, reaching a maximum altitude of 2.5 km. The maximum range of its radio communication is 150 km. The drone is intended for use as a target simulator of a target when creating a target environment using target equipment during tests.
"Our simulator of air targets entered service with the VKS a year ago, and during this time the development has managed to show its importance more than once, helping to work out practical actions to detect and eliminate a conditional air enemy. But we don't stop there. Specialists of the Central Research Institute "Dynamics" are working on the modernization of the complex on an initiative basis. It concerns, in particular, improving the flight performance of unmanned helicopters, installing additional equipment on them, increasing the target load, range and duration of flight. All this will expand the scope of drones. So, promising samples of drones can be used for aerial reconnaissance, target designation in real time, as well as for combat strike applications without involving manned aircraft," said Igor Nasenkov, CEO of Technodinamika Holding.
In October 2020, a complex with unmanned aerial vehicles – a simulator of aerial targets, which has no analogues in Russia, successfully passed state tests, the final stage of which was carried out in the landfill conditions of the GLITZ of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation named after V.P. Chkalov using target equipment. At the end of 2020, the first serial batch of the complex was delivered to the customer.
In October of this year, unmanned helicopters of the Central Research Institute "Dynamics" were used for the first time to simulate an air raid by a conditional enemy during the Russian-Serbian exercises "Slavic Shield – 2021".
The drones served as targets for the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and cannon complexes, the Rostec press service noted.
The next delivery of helicopter simulator air targets to the VKS is scheduled for early 2022.
