MOSCOW, December 29. /tass/. The Orion strike drone destroyed autonomous target helicopters manufactured by Technodinamika Holding of Rostec State Corporation during testing of the latest ammunition. This was reported to journalists on Wednesday by the press service of the holding.
"The use of new weapons was practiced by the Orion attack drone. According to the scenario of the exercises, the helicopter should break through to a military airfield, and Orion, in the absence of other air defense means, should be detected and destroyed," Technodinamika said.
For the tests that were conducted in the Crimea, unique unmanned helicopter simulator targets (VM-V), manufactured by the Dynamics Center, were used. "Our simulator of air targets entered service with the VKS a year ago, and during this time the development has managed to show its importance more than once, helping to work out practical actions to detect and eliminate a conditional air enemy," the press service quotes the words of the holding's general director Igor Nasenkov.
The target helicopter is capable of being in the air for at least two hours, reaching a maximum altitude of 2.5 km. The range of its radio communication is 150 km. In October 2020, the complex successfully passed state tests. At the end of 2020, the first serial batch of complexes was transferred to the Ministry of Defense.
Orion is a Russian medium-altitude UAV with a long flight duration developed by Kronstadt. It is planned to install up to four air-to-ground missiles. The cruising speed of the device can reach 200 km / h, the maximum flight altitude is 7.5 km, the device can stay in the air for up to a day. The maximum payload mass of the drone is up to 250 kg. The export version of the UAV is called "Orion-E". An option for the Russian army is the "Pacer".
