A completely new system has no analogues, it is capable of hitting spacecraft, intercontinental ballistic missile warheads, hypersonic targets at altitudes of several tens of thousands of kilometers

MOSCOW, December 29. /tass/. The new S-550 anti-aircraft missile system (ZRS) has successfully passed state tests and entered combat duty. This was reported to TASS by a source close to the military department.

"The S-550 air defense system has successfully completed state tests. The first C-550 brigade has taken up combat duty," he said.

According to the agency interlocutor, this is "a completely new mobile strategic missile defense system that has no analogues, it is capable of hitting spacecraft, intercontinental ballistic missile warheads, hypersonic targets at altitudes of several tens of thousands of kilometers."

According to the source, this is how a deep-echeloned air defense-missile defense system is being built based on the Pantsir anti-aircraft missile and cannon complexes (at low altitudes), long-range S-350, S-400, S-500 and up to S-550 in space.

TASS has no official confirmation of this information.

Earlier, TASS reported that the new S-550 system is not a resuscitation of the Soviet missile defense system, but a number of its unrealized concepts were taken into account when creating it.

For the first time, the creation of the S-550 air defense system became known on November 9 at a conference call in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The head of the military department, Sergei Shoigu, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin, during the November meetings in Sochi with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and enterprises of the military-industrial complex, mentioned the S-550 among the weapons systems whose supplies to the troops are of particular importance.

On November 15, at the Dubai Airshow 2021 International Airshow, the head of Rostec State Corporation Sergey Chemezov noted that the S-550 will have a longer target detection range and missile range.
