The self-propelled anti-tank complex "Sturm-S", which was in service with the Soviet Army, was developed in the 70s and currently no longer fully meets modern requirements.
Therefore, in 2012, Russian designers created an upgraded version of the Sturm-SM, which received thermal imaging sights and more advanced long-range missiles with tandem cumulative and high-explosive fragmentation warheads.
In such an updated form, the launchers are capable of performing all the tasks assigned to combat the most modern armored vehicles of a likely enemy.
In Ukraine, the improvement of these complexes was puzzled only last year, as a result, its own modification was created, which also received the designation "Sturm-SM". It differs from the basic version by installing an OPSN-I sight with television and thermal imaging channels, a laser rangefinder and a guidance channel.
Instead of 9M114 anti-tank guided missiles, Ukrainian RK-2B "Barrier-B" with a range of 7000 meters were used as weapons.
According to the Defense Express portal, preliminary tests have now been carried out.
Next year, the state has already been scheduled, the military department has included these works in the defense order. But there are no firm guarantees that funding will be received, so now the pace of adopting this complex has slowed down sharply, and, as usually happens in Ukraine, the implementation of plans will take a long time.
