MOSCOW, Dec 28 - RIA Novosti. Belarus plans to buy from Russia a new batch of modernized anti-aircraft missile systems "Tor-M2", the press secretary of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS) of Russia Valeria Reshetnikova said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
"The request for the supply of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems from the Republic of Belarus has not yet been received. The Belarusian side plans to purchase Tor-M2 anti-aircraft missile systems," Reshetnikova said.
As reported by the Ministry of Defense of Belarus, the country had previously purchased five batteries of the Tor air defense system from Russia. According to open sources, the first delivery of the Tor complexes to Belarus was made in 2011, the last in 2018.
The Tor-M2 is the latest modification of the Tor air defense system. "Tor-M2" refers to short-range complexes and is capable of hitting air targets at a distance of up to 15 kilometers. One firing vehicle of the complex carries 16 guided anti-aircraft missiles.
The complex is designed for the effective destruction of aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, planning and guided bombs, drones and so on.
