TSAMTO, December 27. As part of the celebration of the 74th anniversary of the establishment of the Myanmar Navy, on December 24, a ceremony was held at the Thilawa Dockyard in Sinmalaike (Yangon Naval Base) to introduce the Type-035 submarine transferred from the presence of the PLA Navy into the Myanmar fleet.
As reported by Aagth1.blogspot.com, during the ceremony, the DAPL was given the name Minye Kyaw Htin (tail number 72). The event was attended by the Commander of the Myanmar Armed Forces, Min Aung Hlaing.
As part of the ceremony, the fleet was also armed with: the patrol ship Inwa (B.N. 53), the second patrol ship of the Inlay class marine zone, two 18-meter river speedboats, four 20-meter river patrol boats. In addition, the landing platform Moattama dock (b.n. 1501) was demonstrated.
To date, the Myanmar Navy has had one submarine, the Minye Theinkhathu (BN 71) project 877EKM (Kilo class) of Russian construction, transferred from the Indian Navy (former S58 Sinduvir) During the celebration of the 73rd anniversary of the formation of the Myanmar Navy on December 24, 2020.
The contract for the supply of Chinese diesel fuel to Myanmar was not previously reported in the media. The delivered Chinese Type-035 submarine is identified as a Type-035B submarine. Five DPLS of this project were built in the period from 2000 to 2003 under the numbers 309, 310, 311, 312 and 313.
The Type-035 submarine is based on the Type-033 project, which, in turn, was created on the basis of the Russian submarine Project 633, the patent for the production of which was transferred to the PRC.
Type-035B is classified as an obsolete diesel-electric submarine. Its length is 76 m, width - 7.6 m, underwater displacement - 2110 tons. The DAPL has two propellers, the underwater speed is up to 18 knots, the diving depth is up to 300 m, the crew is 57 people.
The submarine is armed with 14 533 mm heavy torpedoes (6 torpedo tubes). Cruise missiles can be launched from the DPL, as well as the installation of minefields (28-32 mines).
The PLA Navy is currently decommissioning obsolete diesel-electric submarines, including all available Type-035. By the end of 2020, they will be replaced by a more modern Type-039 A/B/C-class diesel engine.
Since PLA submarines are classified as high-security warships, the Type-035B submarine delivered to Myanmar does not have a serial number, which makes it difficult to determine which of the five submarines was transferred. Also, it was not disclosed what kind of weapons China supplied with the submarine. Perhaps the DAPL could be transferred as a training ship by analogy with the first submarine received from India.
According to the blog 's assessment Aagth1.blogspot.com, the Myanmar Navy's need for submarines leaves at least 4 units. Thus, in the future, both Russian and Chinese submarines can be purchased additionally. Russia, for example, can offer a DPL of project 636.3.
