MOSCOW, December 26. /tass/. The first launch of British OneWeb communications satellites in 2022 is scheduled to take place in February from the Guiana Space Center (Kourou Cosmodrome). This was reported to TASS by the General Director of Glavkosmos JSC (part of Roscosmos) Dmitry Loskutov.
"The first launch of spacecraft [spacecraft] OneWeb is planned to be implemented from the Guiana Space Center (GCC) in February 2022," Loskutov said.
According to the CEO of Glavkosmos, a total of seven OneWeb satellite launches are planned for 2022.
The next launch of the Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket with the Fregat upper stage and 36 OneWeb satellites from the Baikonur cosmodrome is scheduled for December 27. The number of spacecraft of this grouping will reach 394. The work is being carried out under the contract of Glavkosmos with the European launch services provider Arianespace (OneWeb spacecraft launch operator) and Starsem.
OneWeb low-orbit spacecraft are designed to provide ground-based consumers with high-speed Internet directly via satellite communications.
