RIA Novosti: Russian Orion UAVs have carried out over 40 sorties to strike terrorists in Syria
Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) Orion took off more than 40 times to strike terrorists in Syria, RIA Novosti reports with reference to an informed source. Since 2019, the Russian military has used two such unmanned aircraft.
"Two vehicles have made more than 80 sorties in Syria all the time, more than 40 of them for the use of weapons against terrorist targets," the publication notes. As part of the combat sortie, the drones could launch several strikes against the militants.
The source said that the Orions also conducted reconnaissance and illumination of ground targets for aviation and artillery. Guided missiles X-UAVs were used for strikes, as well as corrected and guided aerial bombs with a caliber of 20, 50 and 100 kilograms. In addition, OFAB-100 high-explosive fragmentation bombs were used several times with high accuracy.
Earlier it became known that tests of a drone with an onboard radar station for reconnaissance of ground targets have started in Russia. The unmanned radar and electronic reconnaissance vehicle was created by the Kronstadt company on the basis of the Orion reconnaissance and strike drone.
