Until recently, the main large-caliber machine guns in the armed forces of African states were Soviet, Chinese and American models.

The most common are various versions of the legendary 12.7 mm DShK and its Type 54 clone manufactured in China. There are also copies purchased in Romania.
In addition to easel variants, they are actively used on tanks that have arrived from the Soviet Union and Eastern European countries. Such as T-54/55, T-62, Chinese Type 59, as well as various wheeled and tracked armored vehicles, jeeps and pickups.
Not uncommon are 14.5-mm CPVS, they are installed on automotive equipment.
More modern 12.7-mm NSV "Utes" are more common in North Africa, as well as the armed forces of the states operating the T-72, however, in some armies they were replaced on the towers of these main tanks with the more familiar DSHK or QJC-88 produced by the PRC. The latter are variants of the W85. Russian modern Kord machine guns are also gaining popularity.
M2 Browning can be seen in countries that traditionally focus on the United States in their policies.
In Cameroon and Uganda, the M02 Coyote, produced by the Serbian company Zastava-arms from the city of Kragujevac and being a licensed version of the "Cliff", lit up. This product differs in some details and can be offered for American 50 Browning cartridges.
