Moscow. December 24. INTERFAX - Russia is developing a portable anti-aircraft missile system (MANPADS) with a missile that has no analogues in the world, said the head of the military air defense (air defense) of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Alexander Leonov.
"The rocket of the new MANPADS will be equipped with an optoelectronic homing head, which has no analogues in the world, providing guidance to the target under the influence of all types of existing and developed optical interference," Leonov said in an interview with the newspaper of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Krasnaya Zvezda.
Leonov said that a new MANPADS is being created as part of the development work (R&D) "Tag".
Currently, the air defense units of the Ground Forces are being re-equipped with MANPADS "Willow". This is a modern portable complex, which, according to the military, is capable of hitting air targets on counter and catch-up courses at an altitude of 10 to 4.5 thousand meters and at a range of 500 to 6.5 thousand meters.
