The troops will be armed with the latest portable anti-aircraft missile system "Willow". This effective means of combating low-flying aerial objects will be delivered to the air defense units of the tank Army of the Western Military District in 2022, the press service of the Military District reported on Wednesday.
It is known that the automated control system "Willow" allows you to detect single and group air targets and determine the parameters of their flight. The portable anti-aircraft complex includes a launcher, a rocket, as well as a "friend-foe" identification system. That is, this weapon is endowed with the ability to destroy enemy air objects and not fire on its planes and helicopters.
Among other advantages of the new MANPADS, experts call improved characteristics in sensitivity, accuracy and resistance to interference created by targets. The complex also includes reconnaissance and control modules, means of detecting aerial objects, as well as elements necessary for the maintenance of manual anti-aircraft guns, and training kits.
The developers of this weapon claim that the "Willow" is perfectly suitable for the destruction of tactical aircraft and attack helicopters. But the most important thing is that it can hit cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles that are barely noticeable on the radars of "large" air defense equipment. Moreover, a striking blow at them from this portable anti- aircraft gun is effective at altitudes from 10 meters to 4.5 kilometers and at ranges from 500 meters to 6.5 km .
