The designer is fragile: the Abakan 98P6E missile defense system combines unique characteristics
The uniqueness of the Abakan 98P6E missile defense system (ABM) is explained by the combination of a missile control system from the Antey-4000 complex and a radar station (radar) from promising complexes. The main feature of the Russian "Abakan" was named by RIA Novosti by the first deputy of its chief designer Dmitry Brilalo.
"The concern's designers managed to combine Antey-4000 missiles and a new generation radar through a new automated control system. Due to this, it was possible to achieve unique characteristics at the request of a foreign customer," the specialist said.
According to him, the foreign side wanted a highly specific complex capable of acting exclusively on ballistic targets. Other requirements of the customer were the presence of a minimum number of combat vehicles in the system and its full automation.
In December, Brilalo stated that the Russian Almaz-Antey concern had created the Abakan 98P6E anti-aircraft missile system (SAM), which surpasses the American MIM-104 Patriot missile defense system.
In August, "The Newspaper.Ru", citing sources associated with the Russian defense industry, reported that representatives of Saudi Arabia held a number of preliminary consultations and negotiations on the purchase of Abakan 98P6E.
