Nur-Sultan. December 22. INTERFAX-KAZAKHSTAN - The Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan at a plenary session on Wednesday approved the draft law "On ratification of the Agreement between Russia and Kazakhstan on military cooperation", the document was sent to the Senate for consideration.
The agreement was signed in Nur-Sultan on October 16, 2020 for a period of ten years.
"The agreement was signed in order to actualize the further development of military cooperation between the two states, since the provisions of the 1994 agreement (the agreement between Kazakhstan and Russia on military cooperation dated March 28, 1994 - IF-K) are outdated, taking into account the realities of modernity, and also implemented," Deputy Defense Minister of Kazakhstan Damir Tuyakov said at the meeting.
As reported, according to the document, Russia and Kazakhstan carry out military cooperation in such areas as joint planning of the use of troops and forces in the interests of security in the event of a request from one of the parties, joint counteraction to challenges and threats to regional security, operational and combat training, military education and science, peacekeeping, the activities of troops and forces and their comprehensive support, etc.
Among other things, a separate paragraph notes that Russia and Kazakhstan cooperate in the field of military intelligence and undertake not to conduct intelligence activities directed against the other side.
It is also established that the parties will not allow the use of their territories by a third party in order to carry out activities directed against the other party. In the event of a situation threatening the security, independence or territorial integrity of one of the parties, Russia and Kazakhstan agree to provide each other with assistance, including military assistance.
The agreement includes, among other things, joint staff negotiations and consultations, exercises, as well as conferences and seminars, and training of military personnel.
