The newest Russian light fighter of the fifth generation Su-75 Checkmate, manufactured by Sukhoi, was included in the list of the 10 most significant achievements in the field of military aviation for 2021. This is reported by the profile American magazine Aviation Week & Space Technology.
In importance, the creation of Checkmate is compared with the first flight of an "unmanned slave" and the first refueling in the air performed by an unmanned aerial vehicle.
It is noted that the first flight of the newest fighter is scheduled for 2023, and the start of serial production - for 2025.
Checkmate includes all the most advanced developments, including an open architecture for building in the interests of the customer and unique elements of artificial intelligence. The aircraft is made using stealth technologies, equipped with an internal fuselage compartment for air-to-air and air-to-surface aircraft weapons. The fighter will be able to simultaneously hit up to six targets.
For the first time the aircraft was presented at the MAKS-2021 air show, the foreign presentation of the fighter took place in November at the Dubai Airshow 2021 in the UAE. It was noted that it will cost about $25-30 million.
On September 3, Russian Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov announced on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (WEF) that Russia is ready to fully finance the creation of the Checkmate fighter. At the same time, he admitted that foreigners can financially support the creation of a two-seat fighter model because they have a corresponding request.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 20 at MAKS-2021 inspected a model aircraft in the Sukhoi pavilion. As specified in Rostec, there were no analogues of such an aircraft in Russia yet.
