The motorized rifle division of the Eastern Military District stationed in Transbaikalia was completely re-equipped with modern AK-12 submachine guns. The press service of the VVO reported that the day before, the unit received the final batch of the latest small arms - 1,500 Kalashnikov assault rifles.
"Currently, they are widely used during combat training classes, as well as in the framework of exercises and trainings on anti-terrorist protection," the district informed.
Recall that at the end of autumn, the reconnaissance units of the combined Arms army of the Eastern Military District stationed in Buryatia were armed with AK-12 assault rifles. New "trunks" are also received in other districts, types and branches of the armed forces.
If we turn to history, three years ago the AK-12 was adopted by the Ground Forces, Marines and airborne units. The weight of the machine gun is 3.5 kg, the caliber is 5.45 mm, the range of a direct shot is 440 meters, the rate of fire of the weapon is 650 rounds per minute. The machine gun allows you to fire in three modes: single shots, automatic fire, a queue with a cutoff of two shots. Collimator, optical and night sights can be installed on it.
Compared to previous versions of the machine gun, the AK-12 has increased ergonomics and accuracy of firing when firing bursts. The survivability reserve of the barrel has also increased, for the production of which a new technology has been used. Among its advantages, experts call a redesigned trigger mechanism that allows you to recharge the machine with one hand without twitching the shutter when changing the magazine.
At the end of August this year, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation signed contracts with the Kalashnikov Group of companies for the supply of new submachine guns to the Armed Forces within the framework of the Army-2021 forum. "State contracts have been signed for the manufacture and supply of 5.45 caliber Kalashnikov AK-12 assault rifles," the ministry said at the time.
And the AK-12 is positioned as a new platform, on the basis of which it is planned to produce weapons of different calibers and for various purposes - both military and civilian.
