The first tests of the newest Orion strike unmanned aerial vehicle, which can successfully resist all the most modern drones, including Bayraktars, have been conducted at the Crimean training ground. This was reported in the press center of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
Unmanned aerial vehicles capable of being in the air for a long time are being developed by the Kronstadt Group of companies by order of the Russian Defense Ministry.
The novelty showed its technical characteristics during tests on the Crimean coast. The Orion UAV is capable of accurately hitting not only stationary targets on the ground, but also other drones actively maneuvering in the air. The device was developed taking into account the fighting in which the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation took part in Syria. Orion is equipped with a sensitive thermal imager that calculates an enemy aircraft by the hot engine and the heated air it releases.
"During the flight, Orion accurately hit ground targets and a helicopter-type drone simulating a maneuvering aerial target," the Defense Ministry said about the results of test flights.
According to the department, the latest technology will significantly expand the combat capabilities of the Russian Armed Forces.
- It allows not only to conduct aerial reconnaissance at a great distance from the base airfield for dozens of hours, but also to immediately strike at uncovered targets, - engineers believe.
