Flight tests of a drone-radar reconnaissance of various ground targets are being conducted in Russia
Tests of a drone with an onboard radar station for reconnaissance of ground targets have started in Russia. This was reported to RIA Novosti by a source in the military-industrial complex.
"The unmanned radar and electronic reconnaissance vehicle was created by the Kronstadt company on the basis of the Orion reconnaissance and strike drone," the agency interlocutor said. According to him, flight tests of the radar drone are being conducted now.
He also clarified that the drone is equipped with a multifunctional ventral radar, which allows reconnaissance of various ground targets, including radio-technical reconnaissance of radiation sources, such as enemy anti-aircraft missile systems.
The source also stated that such a device can also perform target designation functions, including for shock UAVs. "It is planned to introduce a drone into the reconnaissance and strike contour of the unified tactical control system," he said.
In November, RIA Novosti, citing Rosoboronexport CEO Alexander Mikheev, reported that in 2021, the Orion-E reconnaissance and strike drone entered the foreign market, which interested foreign customers.
