MOSCOW, December 18/ Sputnik Radio. The effectiveness of the Open Skies Treaty (DON) without the participation of the Russian Federation and the United States will decrease by 80%, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
On Saturday, Russia officially withdrew from this agreement, suspending the fulfillment of obligations under it.
Moscow has placed all responsibility for the "degradation of the treaty regime" on Washington as the initiator of the termination of the agreement.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the country's withdrawal from the Open Skies Treaty on June 7. The decision was a response to the US withdrawal from the DON in November 2020.
The Open Skies Treaty was signed in 1992 and entered into force in 2002. It became one of the confidence-building measures in the military sphere after the end of the cold war.
The participating States received the right to fly over each other's territories using equipment that meets certain requirements.
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported on the condition called by the Russian Foreign Ministry for the lifting of the moratorium on the deployment of medium- and shorter-range missiles in Europe.
