MOSCOW, Dec 17 - RIA Novosti. Hundreds of scientists have called on Joe Biden to officially declare that the United States has no plans to be the first to use nuclear weapons in the event of an armed conflict. The New York Post writes about this.
According to the publication, about 700 scientists and engineers, including 21 Nobel Prize laureates, sent a letter to the US president.
"We urge you to announce that the United States <...> will consider the possibility of using nuclear weapons only in the event of an attack on America or its allies," the document says.
According to the document, Joe Biden should also give up the right of the commander-in-chief to make decisions on the use of nuclear weapons alone.
These measures will reduce the likelihood of a conflict escalating with the use of conventional weapons into a nuclear war, experts concluded.
