Hyundai has introduced the MobED robot, a four—wheel platform with independent suspension that allows it to keep its balance even on inclined and uneven surfaces. The use of MobED can be very diverse. For example, in the video, he carries a champagne tower and a stroller with a baby, and also works with a tripod.
Wheeled robots move efficiently on flat surfaces. But they usually cope worse with obstacles on the road and height differences. To adapt wheeled robots to different conditions, engineers come up with different solutions. For example, they complement them with legs or screws .
The MobED robot, which Hyundai unveiled on Wednesday, looks like a flat four-wheeled platform. Thanks to the independent suspension, MobED keeps its balance and confidently rides even on inclined and uneven surfaces.
Three motors and a steering system are installed on each of the robot's wheels, which allows them to move in all directions. The position of the platform is stabilized, adjusting to the height of each wheel. And pneumatic tires help to dampen vibrations and shaking on uneven roads.
MobED weighs 50 kilograms. Its length is 67 centimeters, width is 60 centimeters, and height is 33 centimeters. The robot accelerates to 30 kilometers per hour. With a two-kilowatt-hour battery on a single charge, it can last up to four hours. The robot's wheelbase can increase to 65 centimeters to move confidently at high speed, and decrease to 45 centimeters to perform complex maneuvers at low speed.
MobED can have many different uses, depending on what to put on it. Hyundai considers it the optimal solution for the delivery and installation of shooting equipment.
Earlier we wrote about a DJI wheeled robot with a stabilized suspension for the camera. Its wheels can rotate at any angle, dampen vibrations and align the central part relative to the ground with the help of active and passive shock-absorbing elements.
