MOSCOW, December 16. /tass/. The Russian Il-76 took the sixth place in the list of the most popular military transport aircraft in the world, compiled by the leading profile magazine Flight Global. The rating is published in the directory World Air Forces 2022, available to TASS.
According to the study, more than 200 military transport aircraft of the Il-76 family were in service in the world as of December 2021. The share of Russian vehicles accounted for 5% of the global fleet of military transport aircraft. In the first place are American military transport aircraft of the C-130 Hercules family (872 cars, 20%), in the third place are American aircraft of the King Air family (280 cars, 7%).
Since the first flight of the IL-76, developed by PJSC Il (part of the United Aircraft Corporation of Rostec State Corporation), about 1 thousand aircraft in 22 modifications have been produced. Currently, representatives of the family are operated in 24 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and North America.
The most modern version of the IL-76 is the IL-76MD-90A (first flight in 2012), and the IL-78M-90A tanker is also produced on this platform (first flight in 2018). These aircraft can be operated anywhere in the world, including the Arctic and Antarctica.
As of December 2021, 4,300 military transport aircraft were in service in the world, the report says.
