The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, stated the need to protect against space threats
Dmitry Rogozin, head of the Roscosmos State Corporation, said it was necessary to create technologies to protect the planet from space threats. This is reported by Interfax .
"No one can guarantee that something will not come from space and finish all our plans with one blow. This means that we must have technologies that will allow us to "dodge" this threat from our planet," Rogozin assessed their importance at the Reputation business forum on Friday.
Earlier, the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced the approach of the asteroid 4660 Nereus to Earth. The department clarified that a celestial body the size of the Eiffel Tower will pass at a considerable distance from the planet.
In November, the US launched a Falcon 9 rocket with a Double Asteroid Redirect Test (DART) spacecraft. The device is designed to strike the asteroid Didim V. NASA experts plan to test the technology of kinetic strikes on space objects to change their trajectory.
In April, NASA announced preparations for an asteroid collision with Earth. The exercises will allow us to develop a plan that will avoid collisions or reduce damage.
