The effectiveness of repelling enemy strikes by the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) will increase fourfold due to the annual entry into service of sets of the S-350 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM). This was announced by the commander of the air and missile defense forces - Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Lieutenant General Andrey Demin.
"As part of the state armament program in the interests of the Aerospace Forces, from 2021, it is planned to supply one or two regimental sets of S-350 air defense systems to the troops annually, which will increase the effectiveness of repelling massive enemy strikes (including cruise missiles of all types) on the most important objects of the country's defense by more than four times," he said in an interview with the weekly newspaper Independent Military Review.
Demin stressed that in 2021, the S-350 was operated and mastered by teachers at a specialized training center, showed high reliability of systems and proved itself from the best side.
"Currently, the retraining of combat crews has been completed before receiving the S-350 air defense system on the basis of the anti-aircraft missile forces training center, and the personnel are receiving new equipment at the Kapustin Yar training ground, preparing it to perform initial combat shooting at air targets," the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the VKS noted.
Earlier, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Valery Gerasimov, at a briefing before the military attaches of foreign states, said that Russia was fending off potential threats in the aerospace sphere by improving the combat potential of the Aerospace Forces. According to him, the formations and military units of the VKS are equipped with modern and modernized aviation equipment, anti-aircraft missile systems, radar stations and complexes for various purposes.
The S-350 system was developed in the interests of military air defense with a maximum target radius of 60 km and a maximum target height of 30 km. The complex is designed to combat both aerodynamic and ballistic targets. One launcher of the complex is armed with 12 anti-aircraft missiles.
