Moscow. December 8th. INTERFAX - United Shipbuilding Corporation will make a technical project of the promising nuclear destroyer Leader, the head of USC Alexey Rakhmanov told Interfax on Wednesday.
"We have an understanding of what the military wants," Rakhmanov said, noting that the size of the future destroyer will probably be optimized.
"Now we will make a technical project, we will see," said the head of the USC, answering a question about the timing of signing a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry for nuclear destroyers.
In September, in an interview with Interfax, the head of USC said that the corporation had prepared several options for the appearance of the promising nuclear destroyer Leader, they were sent to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
Then Rakhmanov told the agency: "The issue of the construction of the Leader destroyers, as well as the formation of a new GPV (state armament program), is the exclusive responsibility of the Navy and the Ministry of Defense as a state customer. For their part, the USC enterprises carried out preliminary design and offered the fleet several options for the appearance of the ship."
The Russian Navy is interested in the Leader nuclear destroyers, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Vladimir Kasatonov told Interfax on June 23.
In August 2018, a source told Interfax that Russia could build several nuclear destroyers "Leader" equipped with guided missile weapons.
In the summer of 2018, the command of the Russian Navy announced that the laying of the first destroyer would take place no earlier than 2022.
It is assumed that the destroyers will be equipped with long-range cruise missiles "Caliber" and hypersonic missiles "Zircon", modern air defense systems and electronic warfare.
The preliminary design of the destroyer "Leader" has been completed, JSC "Northern Design Bureau" (PKB, part of USC) reported in one of the annual reports. The document noted that work on the draft project began in April 2015, as of the end of 2016, the degree of technical readiness was 100%.
It is assumed that the destroyer will have a displacement of about 14 thousand tons. Thanks to the nuclear power plant, he will get an unlimited range of navigation. Autonomy - 90 days.
It is assumed that the main striking power of the destroyer will be 8 universal launchers, each of which is designed for 8 cruise missiles "Caliber", "Onyx", in the future - "Zircon", a total of 64 missiles (modern Russian frigates are armed with up to 16 missiles of the first and second type).
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian Navy will receive 21 ships for operations in the far sea zone until 2027.
Russia needs to build up to eight nuclear destroyers "Leader" to strengthen the capabilities of the fleet, experts say.
"We need such destroyers in the Northern and Pacific Fleets. These are at least three or four ships for each fleet," Admiral Viktor Kravchenko, former chief of the General Staff of the Russian Navy, told Interfax earlier.
