"A wonderful automaton." A military expert told about the AK-203

Russia and India have signed a contract for the production of AK-203 submachine guns in the Indian city of Korva. What are the features of this weapon, military columnist Viktor Litovkin explained on Sputnik radio.

Moscow and New Delhi have signed a contract for the production of AK-203 submachine guns in India, Dmitry Shugaev, Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS) of Russia, said.

He noted that Russia and India have signed a number of important agreements.

"In particular, the long-awaited contract for the production of Kalashnikov assault rifles here in India, in the city of Korva," the head of the FSVTS said on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

On the air of Sputnik radio, military observer, retired Colonel Viktor Litovkin spoke about the features of the AK-203 machine gun.

"This is a wonderful machine, it has all the advantages of Kalashnikov assault rifles - reliability, unpretentiousness, efficiency. All the good things that can be said about the Kalashnikov assault rifle also apply to the AK-203. It is equipped with a Picatinny rail (a device for installing additional accessories, - Ed.), so it can be attached, for example, a designator, a flashlight, a grenade launcher under the barrel, and so on," Viktor Litovkin said.

The difference between the AK-203 and the most common modifications of the Kalashnikov assault rifle is its caliber, the expert continued.

"They made such a machine gun especially for India, because it produces 5.56 cartridges. This distinguishes the 203-series assault rifle from the usual Kalashnikov assault rifle - AK-74 and other modifications," Viktor Litovkin said.
