Washington. December 3. INTERFAX - The new government of Iran has not demonstrated a constructive approach to the negotiations resumed in Vienna on the restoration of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Friday.
"(The representatives of the new Iranian administration have not brought constructive proposals to Vienna," she said at a briefing.
She noted that the US Special Representative for Iran, Robert Malley, and his team are returning to Washington for consultations.
"The first six rounds of negotiations brought success, allowed us to find inventive compromise solutions for many of the most difficult issues - difficult for all parties. Unfortunately, Iran's approach this week was not aimed at resolving the remaining issues," she explained.
She recalled that moreover, Iran began this round of negotiations with "provocations in the nuclear sphere," as the IAEA reported last Wednesday. Psaki also accused Tehran of failing to reach an understanding with the IAEA to restore cooperation and transparency.
At the same time, she stressed that diplomacy is still the best way to solve the Iranian nuclear problem.
Earlier this week, the International Nuclear Energy Agency reported that Iran has begun enriching uranium by 20% at the Fordo nuclear facility using a cascade of advanced centrifuges.
On Friday it became known that the Vienna talks will resume in the middle of next week. After the meeting of the Joint Commission on the JCPOA, diplomats from Britain, Germany and France stated that the proposals put forward by Iran at the Vienna talks run counter to the previous "difficult compromises" reached during the previous six rounds of negotiations.
