On Wednesday, December 1, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said that the country needs S-500 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAMs). The USA appreciated the advantages of such a step for Russia. Air defense systems in Belarus will allow to resist American missiles in Europe, writes The Military Watch.
Lukashenko said that the Belarusian air defense systems provide protection for the country, but for effective protection against a missile attack Belarus needs the S-400 "Triumph" and S-500 "Prometheus" complexes. The publication noted that the new SAMs could be a response to the deployment of American medium-range missiles in Europe. Also, the S-500 Prometheus complexes will allow Belarus to hit targets deep in European territory.
Earlier, Alexander Lukashenko announced the possibility of returning nuclear weapons to the republic. The author of The Military Watch suggested that the new air defense systems will be able to protect the launchers.
The publication also notes that the deployment of the S-500 in Belarus can increase Russia's defense capability. The promising complex will allow striking inconspicuous aircraft and hypersonic targets at long distances.
In October, the Izvestia newspaper reported on the creation of a single circuit that will include the S-500 air defense system and the Pantsir-SM anti-aircraft missile and gun systems. The S-500 anti-aircraft missile systems will protect the S-500 from drones and enemy cruise missiles.
In September, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov announced that the first samples of the S-500 began to arrive in the troops. He noted that India could become the first foreign buyer of the S-500.
