SEVASTOPOL, December 2. /tass/. A detachment of ships of the Black Sea Fleet (Black Sea Fleet) will take part in the Russian-Egyptian naval exercises "Friendship Bridge - 2021", for which Russian ships will enter the port of Alexandria on December 3, the press service of the Black Sea Fleet said on Thursday.

"A detachment of ships of the Black Sea Fleet is completing the transition to the port of Alexandria of the Arab Republic of Egypt to participate in the joint Russian-Egyptian naval exercise "Bridge of Friendship - 2021". The official entry of the fleet ships into the port of Egypt is scheduled for December 3," the fleet said.

It is specified that the squadron of ships of the Russian Navy includes the frigate Admiral Grigorovich with a deck helicopter on board, the patrol ship Dmitry Rogachev and the rescue tug SB-742. The Russian delegation, led by Rear Admiral Viktor Kochemazov, Commander of the Novorossiysk Naval Base of the Black Sea Fleet, has already arrived in Alexandria to complete the preparatory stage of the exercises.

"During the event held in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea in the area of the Gulf of Alexandria, Russian and Egyptian warships will operate under the guidance of the joint headquarters of the exercise according to a single plan and will perform tasks to repel attacks of naval targets, search for suspicious vessels, organize air defense and resupply at sea from a helicopter. The purpose of the exercise, which will take place from December 3 to December 10, is to prepare and plan joint actions to protect restricted marine areas from various threats, conduct search and rescue operations and inspect suspicious vessels," the navy explained.

It is added that the Russian-Egyptian exercises "Bridge of Friendship" have been held since 2015. In 2020, they were held in the Black Sea with the entry of participating ships into the port of Novorossiysk.
