The large anti-submarine ship (BOD) of the Pacific Fleet Admiral Panteleev has arrived in Indonesia to participate in the first joint naval exercise of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Russian Navy ARNEX-2021, the Information Support Department of the Pacific Fleet reported on December 2.
On December 1, the opening ceremony of the naval exercise took place on the territory of the naval base in the port of Belavan. During the ceremony, guests, including the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to ASEAN Alexander Ivanov, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobyova, Commander of the first Fleet of the Indonesian Navy Rear Admiral Arsiyad Abdullah and military attaches of the ASEAN member countries, boarded the Admiral Panteleev.
They were met by an honor guard, who gave an artillery salute in honor of the arrival of the guests. Alexander Ivanov noted that the exercises are aimed exclusively at maintaining peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
"Thus, a new page has been opened in the Russian-ASEAN strategic partnership," he said.
Russian and foreign diplomats inspected the warship of the Russian Pacific Fleet and left entries in the Book of Honorary Visitors.
The ARNEX-2021 naval exercise takes place in the territorial waters of Indonesia near the island of Ve from December 1 to 3. It involves ships of eight states: Russia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei and Myanmar.
During the active part of the exercise, the military will work out joint tactical maneuvering of ships, conduct training of signalmen, perform tasks on questioning and inspection of a suspicious vessel, work out search and rescue tactics at sea.
Earlier on December 1, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported that military personnel as part of battalion tactical groups of motorized rifle and tank formations of the Southern Military District marched to the areas of combined-arms ranges.
In addition, the Southern Military District noted that Russian military personnel in 2022 will conduct a command and staff exercise (KShU) with groups of troops in the southwest. More than 3 thousand combat training events are planned in desert and mountainous terrain.
