Moscow. December 2. INTERFAX - The opening ceremony of the first joint naval exercises of Russia and the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) ARNEX-2021 was held at the naval base in the port of Belavan (Indonesia), the Pacific Fleet reported on Thursday.
Russia is represented at the exercises by the large anti-submarine ship of the Pacific Fleet Admiral Panteleev, the report says.
During the solemn events, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to ASEAN, Alexander Ivanov, noted that the exercises that have begun are aimed exclusively at maintaining peace, stability and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.
"Thus, a new page has been opened in the strategic partnership between Russia and ASEAN," he said.
The participants of the ceremony visited the Russian ship. Among them are Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Lyudmila Vorobyova, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to ASEAN Ivanov, Commander of the first Fleet of the Indonesian Navy Rear Admiral Arsiyad Abdullah, as well as military attaches of the ASEAN member countries. An Honor guard met the guests at the Admiral Panteleev BOD, and an artillery salute was given in their honor.
"The active part of the exercise includes practicing joint tactical maneuvering by ships, conducting communication training, tasks for interviewing and inspecting a suspicious vessel, as well as training in search and rescue at sea," the press release says.
