The Russian company Baikal Electronics has decided to conduct an experiment on the assembly of branded processors in Russia. This was reported by the authoritative edition of RBC with reference to representatives of companies participating in the project.
The company has already agreed to start packaging, that is, installing the chip in the housing, on GS Group production lines in the Kaliningrad region.
Andrey Evdokimov, General Director of Baikal Electronics, commented on the test production in Russia:
Packaging is one of those technological processes that can be transferred to the territory of the country, thereby forming most of its added value inside Russia.
At the moment, the microcircuits for Baikal processors are manufactured by the Taiwanese company TSMC, the assembly is also carried out abroad. So far, Evdokimov has not told how large volumes are planned to be collected in Russia.
