This satellite is supposed to be used for civilian needs
KIEV, December 1. /tass/. The Ukrainian satellite Sich-2-30 has been successfully tested and is ready to be sent to the United States, where its launch is scheduled to take place on January 10. This was announced on Tuesday by the head of the State Space Agency of Ukraine Vladimir Taftai.
"The launch of the satellite is scheduled for January 10, 2022," he wrote on his Facebook page. Taftai noted that the satellite will be sent to the United States in the coming days. "The Ukrainian satellite Sich-2-30, manufactured at the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau in the city of Dnipro [formerly Dnepropetrovsk], has successfully passed all planned tests and is ready to be sent to the launch base at Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA," the head of the agency said.
Taftai stressed that there were no deviations from the schedule and all the parameters of the satellite meet the technical requirements. He also recalled that this satellite is supposed to be used for civilian needs.
Earlier it was reported that Kiev chose the American company SpaceX to launch the Earth remote sensing satellite "Sich-2-30". The amount of the launch contract is $1.99 million. The main manufacturer of the satellite is Yuzhnoye Design Bureau. The service life of "Sich" is three years. On May 31, it became known that Yuzhnoye Design Bureau signed a contract with ISILAUNCH to launch a satellite into orbit from the SpaceX launch pad using a Falcon 9 launch vehicle.
Oleg Urusky, who previously held the position of Deputy Prime Minister for Strategic industries of Ukraine at that time, stated that the launch of this satellite would solve "many urgent tasks of a socio-economic, environmental, informational, scientific and educational nature, as well as ensure the realization of the interests of the state in the field of national security and defense." According to him, the withdrawal of Sich is the first step towards the implementation of the National Targeted Scientific and Technical Space Program of the country for 2021-2025, which provides for the creation of a Ukrainian space group of at least seven satellites. In October, the head of the State Space Agency Taftai said that Sich-2-30 would allow monitoring the situation in the Donbass.
