The British foreign intelligence service MI6 will need the help of the technology sector to counter threats emanating from China and Russia, which seek to gain an advantage by mastering artificial intelligence.
This is reported by The Guardian with reference to the speech that the head of the agency Richard Moore will deliver at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
"I cannot stress enough how drastic a change this is in the culture, ethics and way MI6 works, as we have traditionally relied primarily on our own capabilities to develop world-class technologies that we need to remain secret and fulfill our mission," the publication quotes excerpts from Moore's speech.
According to him, the agency should become "more open in order to remain secret."
As the newspaper notes, China is rapidly improving its capabilities in cyberspace, Russia is "developing its hacking capabilities."
"Our opponents are investing money and ambitions in mastering artificial intelligence, quantum computing and synthetic biology, because they know that mastering these technologies will give them leverage," Moore said.
