MOSCOW, November 29. /tass/. VNIIEM named after A. G. Iosifyan will manufacture the Meteor-M satellites No. 2-5 and Meteor-M No. 2-6. The corresponding contract with Roscosmos was signed on November 25, according to the state procurement website.
According to the documents, the devices must be manufactured and delivered to the Vostochny cosmodrome before October 24, 2024 (Meteor-M No. 2-5) and November 15, 2025 (Meteor-M No. 2-6). The period of active existence in orbit should not exceed five years.
The contract amount was 5.37 billion rubles.
In October 2020, Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Rogozin presented a presentation at a meeting on the development of the Northern Sea Route, which was chaired by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. According to the information in it, Roscosmos plans to launch the Meteor-M satellite No. 2-5 in 2024, and the Meteor-M spacecraft No. 2-6 in 2025. Prior to that, Meteor-M No. 2-3 and Meteor-M No. 2-4 vehicles should be launched into orbit.
Earlier, Roscosmos received additional financial resources allocated by the government for the development of space programs. Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Rogozin explained that this money will be used for the development of an orbital constellation of weather satellites, Earth remote sensing satellites, as well as for the implementation of the Sphere program.
Meteor-M is part of a series of promising hydrometeorological support spacecraft. The satellites of this series are designed to quickly obtain information for weather forecasting, monitoring of the ozone layer and the radiation situation in near-Earth space.
