MOSCOW, November 26. /tass/. The crew members of the International Space Station celebrated Thanksgiving on board, apple cider and smoked turkey were on the festive table. This was announced on Friday by Russian cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov.
The photos from the holiday posted by Shkaplerov on his Instagram page show packages that say "apple cider", "smoked turkey".
In turn, Roscosmos told TASS that alcohol is prohibited at the station. "The use of alcoholic beverages on the ISS is prohibited. The photo shows the products of the American diet. Accordingly, it would be right to seek comment from the American side," the state corporation said.
Thanksgiving Day was declared a national holiday of the USA in 1863 by the decision of the 16th President of the country Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865). In 1941, the US Congress passed a resolution according to which the holiday was celebrated every fourth Thursday in November. However, this tradition was born back in 1621, when the first settlers from the Plymouth colony in the territory of the present state of Massachusetts decided to arrange a holiday after harvesting.
Roscosmos cosmonauts Anton Shkaplerov and Pyotr Dubrov, NASA astronauts Mark Vande Hai, Raja Chari, Tom Marshburn and Kayla Barron, as well as European Space Agency astronaut Matthias Maurer are currently on watch at the ISS.
