MOSCOW, Nov 25 - RIA Novosti. Outdated artillery, which Ukraine relies on, will not help protect the country in the event of a hypothetical attack by Russia, this opinion was expressed by war correspondent David Ex in an article for Forbes magazine.
As the author writes with reference to official documents, now the Ukrainian ground forces numbering 145 thousand people are equipped with a powerful artillery arsenal and are armed with at least 1.8 thousand guns and multiple launch rocket systems, but their condition leaves much to be desired.
The journalist noted that most of the guns require repair. In addition, there is a shortage of ammunition.
Despite the fact that after the collapse of the USSR, Ukraine inherited an extensive infrastructure for the production and storage of shells, the lack of proper financing curtailed this industry, which became clear at the beginning of the crisis in 2014, the Ex added.
The observer concluded that in the current state, the Ukrainian army is capable of fighting in a low-intensity war, and in a collision with Russian formations, victory cannot be expected.
