Nur-Sultan. November 25. INTERFAX-KAZAKHSTAN - The Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan at a plenary session on Thursday adopted the law "On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on the provision of gratuitous military-technical assistance," the correspondent of the Interfax-Kazakhstan agency reported.
The document was signed on April 17, 2021.
As Deputy Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan Ruslan Shpekbayev said at the meeting, the agreement provides for a one-time transfer of military equipment, in particular, ammunition, to the Tajik side.
"The Kazakh side provides and assumes the costs of delivering military equipment by rail from the Otar station of the Zhambyl region (in the south of Kazakhstan) to the city of Dushanbe," he said.
According to him, the agreement stipulates that the Tajik side does not transfer property or the right to use it to a third party.
During the meeting, the senators also adopted the law "On ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan on the provision of military-technical assistance in ensuring security in the adjacent areas of the Tajik-Afghan border."
According to Shpekbayev, this document was signed on July 12, 2021 at the "request of the Tajik side for the provision of military-technical assistance."
"The agreement provides for a one-time transfer of military equipment to the Tajik side, the name and volume of which are agreed through diplomatic channels," he said.
The Deputy Minister added that the Kazakh side also assumes the costs of delivering military equipment by rail to Dushanbe.
"In light of the permanent security threats to the Central Asian region caused, among other things, by the withdrawal of the international coalition troops from Afghanistan, there is an objective need to urgently strengthen the defense potential of the armed forces in the southern direction of the CSTO zone of responsibility," Shpekbayev added.
