A batch of AK-12 5.45 mm Kalashnikov assault rifles was delivered to the military personnel of the Baltic Fleet Marine Corps unit as part of the fleet rearmament program.
According to the information support department of the press service of the Baltic Fleet, the new small arms replaced the AK-74M submachine guns previously in service with the Black Berets.
The AK-12, developed as part of the Ratnik program, was put into service at the end of 2018. It is positioned as a new platform on the basis of which it is planned to produce weapons of various calibers and purposes - both military and civilian.
Now the amphibious assault and reconnaissance units of the Marine Corps have begun targeting and bringing weapons to normal combat at the Baltic Fleet's "Khmelevka" training ground in the Kaliningrad region.
