TSAMTO, November 24. The Estonian Defense Investment Center (ECDI – Estonian Centre for Defense Investment) has signed a contract with the Israeli company Elbit Systems for the supply of 120 mm mortars to the Estonian Armed Forces.
According to the Shephard News Team, the cost of the agreement is 15 million euros ($17.27 million). The contract was signed on September 30, but it was officially announced in the EU contract database only on November 10. In addition to supplying an unnamed number of 120 mm mortar systems, Elbit will also provide maintenance during operation.
Elbit produces two types of towed 120mm mortars, each of which can be integrated with a lightweight portable fire control system.
At the end of October, Shephard announced that the Estonian defense budget for 2022 provides for the allocation of funds for the purchase of four-wheel drive vehicles. A potential candidate is the Oshkosh light tactical vehicle JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle), which can be used as a self-propelled mortar if equipped with a 120 mm Spear / Spear Mk mortar system serviced by the calculation.2. Elbit also produces the 120mm autonomous self-propelled mortar Cardom. CV-9030 tracked infantry fighting vehicles can also be used as a self-propelled mortar chassis.
