TSAMTO, November 23. Two Island-type patrol boats arrived on November 23 from the United States to Ukraine, soon they will provide maritime security in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the press service of the Ukrainian Navy.
Earlier, on November 8, the US Embassy in Kiev reported that two high-speed American patrol boats from the US Coast Guard of the Island type set off from the USA to Odessa.
"On board the Ocean Grand vessel from Baltimore (Maryland), two Island-type boats, named "Fastov" and "Sumy", arrived in Ukraine on November 23," the press service said in a Facebook message.
The procedure of customs control and unloading will take place in the Odessa Commercial Sea Port. Then the boats will be towed to their bases and prepared for operation after a long transportation.
Island type boats are high-speed patrol boats of the US Coast Guard designed for patrolling and search and rescue operations in coastal waters. In September 2018, two such boats were transferred to the Ukrainian Navy by the United States as part of the American program "Surplus Military Equipment", the agency recalls.
According to the press service, a full-fledged division of Island-class patrol boats will be created as part of the Ukrainian Navy by the end of the year, RIA Novosti reports.
